Washers, IMO, are an unsuitable method of spacing the case. That might be useable as a spacer and I think they are reasonably priced. There is a thin "adapter" plate, sold by several hot rod parts vendors, that is intended to facilitate using a Chevy pattern trans case on a BOP block or vice versa. If your converter was pressing against both, front and rear, a spacer may correct that but I would then be concerned that the converter is seated into the front pump drive adequately, and not being held out too far to clear the pump bolts.
When you were bolting the Ultra Bell to the block, was the converter pressing against both the flex plate at front and the pump bolts at the rear at the same time?Īs you probably know, so forgive me here, when the trans case is attached to the block, the converter usually has to come forward a 1/4" or slightly more, to bring the converter attaching lugs in contact with the flex plate.
